Getting diagnosed with ADHD is one of the first and most important steps toward getting the help you need. A diagnosis provides clarity and direction for treatment, helping you understand your unique challenges and strengths. It can also be the starting point for accessing formal accommodations at school or work, ensuring you have the tools to succeed. Additionally, it empowers you to advocate for yourself in your medical care and other areas of life, opening doors to the support and resources you deserve.
At Superior Center, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive evaluations tailored to meet the unique needs of you or your child. Our team is here to offer clarity, support, and guidance throughout the process, ensuring you feel confident every step of the way. Out of pocket, evaluations will cost $150 per session. Most individuals are able to get their evaluation covered by insurance either by paying a copay, a coinsurance, or a deductible.
An assessment is a broad term that encompasses various methods used to gather information about an individual’s mental health, behavior, or cognitive functioning. It can include anything from informal observations to formal tools like psychological tests or evaluations. Assessments are designed to provide a general understanding of an individual’s needs and guide further steps in treatment or support.
A psychological evaluation, which we provide, is a more structured process that includes a clinical interview called a biopsychosocial assessment (essentially gathering your life story), completing questionnaires, and analyzing the context of your responses. Our evaluations typically take 1 to 3 sessions and are often the "first step" in obtaining an ADHD diagnosis. For many, this is also the final step in gaining clarity and direction for their treatment.
Psychological testing is a more advanced and detailed form of assessment that is lengthier and more comprehensive. It can take 4 to 12 hours, either spread over multiple days or completed in one session, depending on the practice. Psychological testing is particularly helpful when symptoms overlap or when additional clarity is needed, such as for diagnosing autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It is a valuable tool for understanding complex conditions but is also more expensive and time-intensive.
We provide this clarification because terms like assessment, evaluation, and psychological testing are often used interchangeably, even by medical professionals, which can lead to confusion. Our team is here to help you determine if our services align with your needs and the requirements of your doctor, school, or employer.
We accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, Cigna, Priority Health, and United Healthcare. For Medicaid plans, we accept Blue Cross complete, McLaren, Priority Health, and United Healthcare.
Please be advised to call your insurance to ensure that we do in fact take your specific healthcare plan. We also provide insurance verifications and if anything comes up that we were not expecting we will let you know prior to the appointment, however it is always best for you to call your insurance to ensure that this will be covered.
Also please note that insurance plans are provider specific. This means that certain assessment clinicians are able to accept certain plans. We will match you and schedule you with somebody that can take your insurance if we have them available, but that mean that you have less of an option for location choice if you wish to get your evaluation completed in person. All of our assessment clinicians are able to provide assessments via Telehealth.
We can get your evaluation scheduled for you in as little as 7 days in most cases depending on your availability. We are able to provide our evaluations both through Telehealth and in-person at our Plymouth and Grand Rapids offices!.
