Hi! I'm Justin! I am a licensed clinical social worker, therapist for ADHD, business coach for private practice therapists and people with ADHD (BONUS if you are a therapist with ADHD), (soon-to-be) published a,uthor (coming October, 2024), and content creator. Outside of my work I am a HUGE WWE and pro wrestling fan, husband, dog dad, and interpersonal researcher. By "interpersonal researcher" I mean my hyperfocus gets ahead of me and I do deep dives on my special interests.
I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 6. My family didn't like that diagnosis all too much and did everything in their power to keep it away from me. I managed to excel in school with the help of very flexible teachers that did not need an IEP and parents that were on me 24/7. I succeeded, but I was internally struggling and often staying up until midnight just to get assignments done.
By the time high school came around and more Independence was granted toward me I was struggling more often turning an assignments 1 hour before they were due but still managed to keep things together between then and college. I even graduated student of the year of my undergraduate program!
This is my friend Angie whom I met in graduate school! She has become a close colleague of mine and is a big part of my journey during my educational years.
It took me until I was 23 to accept that I had ADHD. It also took me until 25 to realize it wasn't just making me quirky and forgetful, and that there was actually something significant going on that caused a lot of challenges for me.
During this period, I had a conversation with a colleague named Christine who also had ADHD. We worked for a Telehealth Center that focused on opiate and alcohol recovery. I was discussing with her how I thought it was very cool that there were specialty centers like this; in 2019 it was a lot more rare to see any sort of Specialty Center aside from your typical Inpatient Rehab for mental health or drug addiction as well as maybe for anxiety or depression.
I had asked her " why don't we ever see places like this for ADHD?" which set off a four-year hyperfocus conversation in which I business plan my practice three times to do nothing with it (until 2022).
A lot happened in 2022! I got married to my beautiful wife Heather (seen here, we were babies) who happens to be a social worker as well and YES she is a therapist with us, YES she also has ADHD, and YES she is our child specialist therapist! I also got fired from a job that I thought was going to be my forever job (not what you would probably expect on a business website to be admitting this but one of my values is transparency).
I realized in 2022 I had to enter Private Practice to provide my services for the ADHD community. I will certainly never thought I was the best therapist in the world, but I knew I was damn good at what I did (and am proud to say i am even better now). I knew that I could not waste any more time going into agencies wasting my talents and expertise four organizations that just saw me as a licensing number. I had something special for the ADHD community of Michigan and Beyond!
In 2023 I decided to go from a full-time contractor at a group practice and working my practice part-time to finally going fully into Superior Center. On June 19th 2023 we opened the doors to our ADHD practice after an open house event the weekend prior. I started off with 25 of my own clients. Within one month we scaled it to 50 clients for me and another month later 75 active clients. I realized very quickly that I was going to have to bring on team members sooner than I ever thought.
Today we are practice of multiple therapists that have multiple specialties co-occurring and surrounding ADHD! We are the fastest growing psychotherapy practice for ADHD in Metro Detroit, we are a leading provider when it comes to women's mental health with ADHD (over 66% of our adult populations identify as female), we are leading provider of psychotherapy for adults with ADHD (over 50% of our active clients are 18 or over, which is not traditional when you think of ADHD), AND over 90% of our individuals are seen by Telehealth; a common misconception regarding ADHD is that we cannot focus or be productive in therapy without in-person sessions, and as you can see by that statistic we have proven that is nothing more than a myth.
We also are expanding services for individuals with ADHD including life coaching (for daily household management, peer relationships, problem solving, etc.), business coaching for ADHD owned businesses, fitness coaching (2025), and tutoring for high schoolers (2025).
